According to French outlet le10sport, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have opted to extend Sergio Ramos’ tenure at the Parc des Princes by offering him a new contract.
The Qatar-based owners are said to have given de-facto advisor Luis Campos permission to offer Ramos a new contract. His current deal will expire at the end of the season.
After finishing his contract at Real Madrid, the Spain legend will join Les Parisiens in the summer of 2021. He endured an injury-plagued debut season, making only 13 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring twice.
The 36-year-old has started the current season well after spending the full pre-season with the French club. He has been an indispensable member of boss Christopher Galtier’s first-team setup, scoring once in 15 appearances in all competitions.
Ramos’ success and return to fitness appear to have impressed the French champions, who are willing to offer him a brief extension. According to journalist Ekrem Konur, PSG may offer him a one-year contract with the possibility of extending it for another season.
He is thought to earn £200,000 per week at PSG. It remains to be seen whether a contract renewal will include a compensation increase.
Ramos’ influence has grown this season as a result of injuries to first-team centre backs Presnel Kimpembe and Danilo Pereira. With 180 senior caps for his country, the immensely experienced Spain international is set for a hectic few months.
He is set to be included to manager Luis Enrique’s 26-man Spain team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November.
PSG eye Inter Milan defender
PSG appear to be looking ahead to the future by keeping an eye on Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar.
The Slovakian is in his prime years and is widely regarded as one of the top defenders in the world. However, his contract issue is causing concern.
According to the Italian outlet CalcioMercatoNews, Barcelona has entered the battle for the former Sampdoria centre-back. With Gerard Pique poised to leave at the end of the season and Eric Garcia failing to impress, the Catalan club could use a defensive upgrade.
Skriniar could be a financially sound option for the Blaugrana. His contract expires in the summer of 2023 and Inter could sell him in January if it becomes clear he won’t agree to fresh terms.
