Match Preview: PSG heavy favourites to sweep Lorient aside in Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain might have an encounter in the Coupe de France against SC Feignies in the Round of 64 stage of the tournament, however there will be many who will be looking ahead to their matchday 19 clash with Lorient next week.

Indeed, the clash at the Stade Yves Allainmat – Le Moustoir will mean the encounter will round off the first half of the Ligue 1 season for both sides and it will have been one that has gone to plan for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

The Parisians are already running away with the Championship after missing out on the title to Lille last season, with a distance of 13 points between them and second-placed Olympique de Marseille currently being held although their rivals do have a game in hand.

Unsurprisingly, when it comes down to the encounter with Lorient next Wednesday, though, PSG have been made overwhelming favourites to record all three points, with Betway Sportsbook providing them with a price of 3/8 to win on the day.

Of course, what makes this rather unsurprising is just as much as Lorient’s poor form in Ligue 1 this season as it is in regard to the visitor’s typical efforts at the top of the division.

The hosts will enter the contest in the bottom two, as they have managed to pick up just three wins all season thus far and many will not be holding their breath for an upset, as it would have to be deemed a miracle if it were to happen.

In addition to finding it difficult to pick up points, Lorient have the worst record in the league when it comes down to scoring goals, as they have only managed to net 14 goals all season; the fewest of any team with St Etienne having managed to score three more than them despite being at the foot of the table.

However, with that said, miracles have happened in this fixture before, with the previous meeting that took place at the Stade Yves Allainmat – Le Moustoir ending in victory for the hosts.

Lorient managed to record a 3-2 victory in that game as they Laurent Abergel, Yoane Wissa and Terem Moffi to thank after they fell 2-1 behind after a double from Neymar Jr, with which he scored both goals from the penalty spot.

However, with additions such as Lionel Messi required to deal with now, that miracle that happened might only be a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence and one many will not be banking on happening again.
