PSG News: UCL win, Messi’s contract and Hakimi booed

Paris Saint-Germain triumphed 3-1 against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League, with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe setting each other up and Neymar scoring late to cap an otherwise poor display. After Maccabi midfielder Tjaronn Chery lobbed in a cross in the 24th minute, Messi equalised a wild PSG side in the 37th minute with Mbappe’s cross from the right. Argentina captain Messi has now scored in the Champions League against a record 39 different opponents.

The official Twitter account of the UEFA Champions League released a video of the event on social media. “When you meet Leo Messi,” the post’s message stated. Since being posted on the microblogging platform a few hours ago, the message has received over 2,70,000 views. In the video, one of the kids asks Messi for a hug, while another boy blows kisses to the Argentine superstar. Messi has appeared in eleven games for PSG this season, including two in the UEFA Champions League and an appearance in the Trophee des Champions. The 35-year-old has five goals, including one in the Champions League and one in the Trophee des Champions. In the current season, he also has eight assists.

Luis Campos, the sporting head of Paris St Germain FC, has stated that he has already addressed Lionel Messi about extending his stay at the club. However, when his agreement with PSG expires next year, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s status is once again in doubt. While the 35-year-old has the choice to extend his contract for another year, there have been significant rumours that Barcelona wants to re-sign him. At the same time, PSG is attempting to sign him to a new deal. Campos, their recently hired sports director, has confessed to spoken with Messi about extending his stay at Parc des Princes for another three years.

PSG leads Group H with six points, as does Benfica, which defeated Juventus 2-1 in the other game. However, PSG struggled at times against a Maccabi team driven by the smooth Chery. Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain was booed during Wednesday night’s Champions League encounter versus Maccabi Haifa of Israel. The 23-year-old right-back was introduced as a replacement in the 83rd minute and then was booed by the home supporters due to his strong support for Palestinian rights. In response to the loud booing from the home crowd, Hakimi touched his ear. Hakimi is an outspoken supporter of the Palestinian cause, and he expressed his outrage on Twitter last year when the Israeli authorities evacuated inhabitants of the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood.
